عینک اسنپ‌چت

اسنپ‌چت را همه تا پیش از این یک برنامه پیام‌رسان و شبکه اجتماعی می‌دانستیم. اما حالا مدتی است که این شرکت نام خود را به اسنپ تغییر داده و این تغییر محدود به نام نیست. عرضه سخت‌افزاری مانند این عینک هوشمند یکی از نمونه‌هایی است که نشان می‌دهد باید ذهنمان را از اسنپ‌چتی که در قالب نرم‌افزار و یک پیام‌رسان اجتماعی بود پاک کنیم. این محصول در واقع یک عینک آفتابی است که در کناره‌های آن دو لنز دوربین تعبیه شده است. این دوربین‌ها می‌توانند تا 10 ثانیه ویدئو ضبط کنند و به اشتراک بگذارند؛ البته از آنجا که شیشه‌های این دوربین تیره و مناسب مکان‌های پرنور است باید فیلمبرداری در محیط‌هایی با نور کم را فراموش کنید. شارژکردن آن هم بهترین روش ممکن را دارد به‌گونه‌ای که کافی است عینک را درون قابش بگذارید تا شارژ شود. بزرگ‌ترین ایرادی که می‌شود به این عینک گرفت اینکه مدل و حتی سایز آن یکی است و اگر مدل آن خوشتان نیامد یا سایز آن برای صورت شما کوچک یا بزرگ بود انتخاب دیگری ندارید. این عینک ۱۳۰ دلار قیمت دارد و هم با اندروید و هم با آی‌او‌اس سازگاری دارد.

 

روبات جنگ ستارگان

علاقه‌مندان به فیلم‌های جنگ ستارگان شخصیت محبوب BB_8 را می‌شناسند. این روبات حالا به دنیای ما آمده و می‌توانیم با پرداخت ۱۵۰دلار آن را داشته باشیم. این روبات به همان اندازه‌ای که در فیلم است سایز کوچک و وزن کمی هم دارد. Biki مجهز به یک دوربین 4K با زاویه دید ۱۵۰ درجه است. شما می‌توانید این دستگاه را از طریق اپلیکیشن تلفن هوشمندتان کنترل کنید. یکی از مزیت‌های Biki این است که پره ندارد و جدا از اینکه باعث می‌شود صدای آزاردهنده‌ای نداشته باشد، شما می‌توانید بدون نگرانی از آسیب‌دیدن افراد آن را مثلا در یک استخر بیندازید و از آن استفاده کنید. ساعت مایکروسافت

چند سالی می‌شود که ساعت‌های هوشمند وارد دنیای تکنولوژی شده‌اند و تا حد جالب توجهی هم جای خود را در میان کاربران پیدا کرده‌اند. این محصولات اغلب برای استفاده روزمره طراحی شده‌اند ولی مایکروسافت از زاویه‌ای دیگر به این محصول نگاه کرده است. ساعت «اِما» (Emma) محصولی جدید است که برای کمک به افرادی که مبتلا به پارکینسون هستند طراحی و تولید شده است. درواقع هدف Emma کاهش لرزش دست این افراد با ارسال ارتعاشاتی به مغز بیمار است. به این ترتیب بیمار می‌تواند راحت بنویسد یا طراحی کند. به گفته مایکروسافت این ساعت با استفاده از موتورهای ویبره، لرزش‌های خفیفی به وجود می‌‌آورد و ذهن بیمار را منحرف می‌کند تا سعی در ایجاد لرزه نکنند. این موضوع سبب آرام‌شدن حرکت ماهیچه‌ها می‌شود و کار‌کردن با دست ساده‌تر می‌شود. البته این ساعت فعلا در حد یک نمونه اولیه است. مایکروسافت Emma را در کنفرانس بیلد ۲۰۱۷ که کمتر از یک ماه پیش برگزار شد معرفی کرد و فعلا راه زیادی برای به کمال رسیدن این ابزار وجود دارد. ولی همین شروع کافی است تا امیدوار باشیم در آینده بیماران مبتلا به پارکینسون از مشکل لرزش دست خود رهایی بیابند.

 

اسپیکر آمازون اکو شو

در میان ابزارهای هوشمندی که پا به دنیای فناوری گذاشته‌اند اسپیکر هوشمند آمازون‌ اکو شو(Amazon Echo Show) جذابیت ویژه‌ای دارد. این اسپیکر یک صفحه‌نمایش لمسی ۷ اینچی دارد که به دستیار هوشمند الکسا مجهز است. وجه تمایز آن از دیگر اسپیکرهای هوشمند نمایشگر این محصول است. این نمایشگر کاربردهای گوناگونی دارد، مثلا می‌توان از آن برای نمایش ویدئوهای یوتیوب استفاده کرد یا می‌توان هنگام پخش موسیقی، متن ترانه را در صفحه‌نمایش دید. همچنین شما می‌توانید از این نمایشگر به‌عنوان آلبوم عکس استفاده و تصاویر ذخیره‌شده را مانند یک آلبوم دیجیتالی مشاهده کنید. این محصول به دوربین ۵ مگاپیکسلی و دو اسپیکر مجهز است که در فریم جلوی نمایشگر تعبیه شده‌اند. آمازون اکو شو با کمک وای‌فای به دوربین‌های امنیتی متصل می‌شود و شما می‌توانید از دستیار الکسای خود بخواهید که پشت در را در صفحه‌نمایش به شما نشان بدهد. این محصول آمازون هنوز وارد بازارهای جهانی نشده و یک ماه دیگر برای خرید آن باید صبر کنید. قرار است این دستگاه با قیمت ۲۳۰ دلار به فروش برسد.

Here's what women in tech actually think about their employers

We know the stats: women hold about 21 percent of technical jobs at Silicon Valley's top companies. 

Many of the women who make up that 21 percent have some feedback about their employers. According to a new report from the jobs site Comparably, the biggest tech companies—and their CEOs—don't make it to the top of the heap when women in the tech industry rate their employers.

The jobs site used its database of salaries, job titles, and employee ratings shared between April 2016 and April 2017 to determine the companies and leaders that women employees rate the highest. 

According to the site's analysis, the top eight companies as rated by women who work there are mostly smaller players in tech—not the major names. Nope, Uber didn't make the list. 

Here are the top companies, as rated anonymously by their employees: 

1. Cornerstone On Demand (a cloud-computing company)




2. Slack




3. Indeed 




4. Hubspot




5. Zenefits




6. Zillow




7. Salesforce




8. Chegg

Many of these companies are based outside of Silicon Valley, with Santa Monica, Austin, Boston, and Seattle represented. Of the San Francsico-based names, No. 2 Slack has earned a reputation as a great place to work for women and people of color. 

Besides the top companies, women employees rated their own CEOs. The CEOs who earned the top ratings, starting at 98 percent approval and down to 82 percent approval, were:

3. Brian Halligan, Hubspot




4. Brad Smith, Intuit




5. Marc Benioff, Salesforce

Even though these CEOs come out looking good in Comparably's results, they're still all men. But the women working in tech weren't ranking the leaders they wished they had—just the ones they do have.

What is "covfefe"? Where some see nonsensical ramblings from a president with an itchy Twitter finger, others see dollar signs.   

Jokes about the Donald Trump's late-night typo may be long past beaten to death, but you can drag the shtick out to excruciating new lengths with all manner of "covfefe" merchandise.

An endless array of coffee covfefe mugs, T-shirts, baby outfits, hats, and other ephemera have materialized online in the hours since Trump fired off the enigmatic tweet.  

No doubt these items are sure to remain topical for weeks to come and not elicit pitying groans from friends and family members. 

Some sellers were remorseful about their brazen opportunism.

Amazon gets patent for package parachutes

It's no secret that Amazon's been pursuing the delivery-by-drone method for a while now, but now we have a better idea about the next step in the evolution of that plan thanks to a new patent the mega-company received. 

As flagged by GeekWire, Amazon has received a patent for a shipping label with a parachute built in, intended for "packages to be dropped from the aerial vehicle, yet land at the package's destination without damage."

The parachute would be built in as part of the shipping label but done so using a harness or other method that keeps the cords of the parachute from getting tangled, screwing up the parachute, and sending your latest Precious Moments figurine purchase crashing to the ground.

According to the patent, the parachute could be made from any number of materials, including paper, canvas, silk, nylon, or a combination. 

The execution of the plan is simple: the drone launches with the package, flies to its location, confirms its location (via GPS, cell location, or even an onboard camera), drops the package to the ground safely, and then flies away.

Video or other sensors like radar can confirm the successful deployment of the parachuted package. 

Here comes your package! Plop!

There are still plenty of things to take into consideration, too, like the weight of the package and rate of descent. Other issues include the exact location of delivery. Can a drone safely maneuver its way to your front porch like a UPS driver or will it be plopped in your yard where it's exposed to the elements, from rain to the neighbor's dog?  

The patent does note that if the package winds up, say, on your roof or in a tree, the drone will be able to communicate with a control center to let them know. Perhaps a push notification of hey, the package is stuck in a tree, whoops, my bad.

CNN fires Kathy Griffin over her controversial Trump photo shoot

CNN's New Year's program will look different this year with no Kathy Griffin co-hosting with Anderson Cooper.

New Year's Eve 2017 is going to be different on CNN this year.

The cable network's annual show, New Year's Eve Live, co-hosted for almost the past 10 years by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and comedian Kathy Griffin, will no longer include Griffin.

CNN announced her firing Wednesday morning a day after she was pictured in a photo shoot with a bloody beheaded Donald Trump art piece.

CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program.

Griffin had apologized for the photo after conservatives and liberals alike derided the gruesome display. Her co-host, Cooper, had vehemently called out the photo shoot and Griffin's participation.

For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.

CNN's announcement came hours after Donald Trump called out Griffin for the "sick!" photo that upset his children. Donald Trump Jr. had specifically tweeted at CNN to drop Griffin from its programming.

Griffin deleted the photos from her Twitter and her explanation defending the work, which she said had been shot by photographer Tyler Shields. Last week he had hinted at the work with this tweet:

She tweeted Tuesday, "OBVIOUSLY, I do not condone ANY violence by my fans or others to anyone, ever! I'm merely mocking the Mocker in Chief."

The CEO of Squatty Potty, a toilet stool known for its over-the-top ads, decided Tuesday night to suspend a new ad campaign starring Griffin. The CEO said in a statement the suspension demonstrates the company's "commitment to a culture of decency, civility and tolerance."

The fallout continues.

A 'deep like' is the worst thing that can happen when you're lurking on Instagram

I was 92 weeks deep in a stranger's Instagram account when something truly terrible happened — my finger accidentally double-tapped the screen, resulting in the dreaded "deep like." Cue: panic, profound regret, and infinite embarrassment.

A deep like is the moment you accidentally "like" a really old photo when lurking on someone's Instagram profile. Many of us are guilty of deep liking, and others live in fear of the dreaded moment our finger slips and hits the heart button by mistake. 

I'd been seeing a guy for a few months when things began to turn sour. I wasn't sure if I was being ghosted or if he was seeing someone else. Naturally, I conducted an investigation. And a highly dangerous one at that. 

First I trawled the photos Matt was tagged in. My heart began to race as I saw a new photo — posted by his housemate — in which he was standing behind a very pretty woman. Who is she? Why is he standing beside her?

I instantly clicked on the account and began trawling this stranger's feed for clues. And that's when it happened. Ninety-two weeks in, I liked a photo of this random bloke's grandparents eating a roast dinner. And, I saw my life — and soon-to-be-over relationship — flash before my eyes.

I'm not alone in this deeply real struggle. Student Maria Bendo says her "deep like experience" happened when she was perusing the Instagram account of an old high school peer who she'd never spoken to before.

"I was going through old photos to see what they had been up to, found out they had a baby and I accidentally liked a picture of their baby that was almost a year old," says Bendo. She says she's usually pretty stealthy when "deep-diving," but something went wrong on this particular occasion.

"I immediately un-liked it, closed the app and genuinely contemplated deleting my account, hoping that they would never see the notification (a delusional thought)," says Bendo. She says she was "absolutely mortified" and made her account private rather than deleting her account altogether.

Ligia Amaral — who works in PR — says she was "skimming through" a friend of a friend's profile — a woman who she'd never met — and accidentally double-tapped while she was trying to zoom. "In that moment, it felt like time froze and my heart sunk down in my stomach," says Amaral. 

"It's almost weirder when it's someone you have mutual friends with than a randomer — so I quickly picked myself up and changed my Instagram name AND handle to @ligialamaral so that when she searched for me, she wouldn't be able to find me," says Amaral.

Ever since then, Amaral has used the account she set up for her cat for all her Insta lurking needs. She says it saves her the embarrassment because no one thinks twice about a cat liking one of their photos.

Account executive Siobhán Meehan says she was on the "receiving end of a deep like" of a photo that was a couple of weeks old.

She uses her cat's Insta account for all her lurking needs.

"The person who liked the photo turned out to be my ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend and she had liked a picture of me and my new boyfriend," says Meehan. The new girlfriend immediately unliked the photo, but she wasn't fast enough: Meehan still got a notification. "She was clearly have a good old stalk on my profile and accidentally double-tapped," says Meehan. Awkward!

If you find yourself falling prey to a deep like situation, there are a few ways to style it out to minimise the brutal humiliation of being caught red-handed. Some people recommend immediately un-liking the photo and then liking a more recent photo, so that the push notification doesn't seem too suspicious. Others prefer to set their Insta accounts to private for a day, or change their Instagram handles. 

Regardless of your choice of style-out, don't worry too much. Because, if we're being honest with ourselves, how much attention do we really pay to the strangers who like our Instagram photos? Not much. But, deep liking is an experience that's best avoided if you can.

Justin Bieber searched 'MDMA used for' on YouTube and Instagrammed the results

Since Just Bieber returned to Instagram, he's used the platform to experiment with artistic expression, whether he's announcing his conjunctivitis diagnosis of documenting his abs. Usually. he's documenting his abs. 

This morning, Bieber was so inspired that he Instagrammed 26 times in a single hour, including a TMZ screenshot of himself getting into an altercation and a photoshop of his head on Halsey's body. 

In his endless thirst for wisdom, he also apparently searched for uses of ecstasy on YouTube and shared a video of what he found out, because he is a generous soul who can't help but let his fountain of knowledge spill out onto the streets.

The video is a compilation titled "WHEN PEOPLE GET HIGH AS F*CK" and it's not one of the top results for "MDMA used for" so it seems like Bieber went down quite the rabbit hole. 

The clip Bieber shared transitions from a Jerry Springer segment to an interview with a shirtless man. A woman asks, "What do you think the meaning of life is?" The bearded subject, in true Bieber fashion, responds, "To live in the mystery and to find purpose." Damn, true.
