While we've already established that Donald Trump has had an unusually bizarre week on Twitter, even for him, it seems we maybe finally know why he's been firing off these random tweets like a drunk monkey with a smartphone.
On Friday morning, Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to a single charge of lying to the FBI, which may be a sign that Flynn is now cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
So could knowledge of this impending announcement be what sent Trump off the deep end this week?
Ok, look, I know this seems a bit of a leap. After all, it's often hard to tell the difference between a specifically-inspired Trump Twitter Outburst™ and your average, run-of-the-mill Trump Twitter habits.
And "Trump uses his Twitter feed as a distraction" is already the most common trope of his administration so we can't automatically just jump to that conclusion.
But stick with me here!
On Tuesday, as Trump's Twitter activity was certainly active but not yet into full-blown "monkey-flinging-poop" mode, the intrigue began with this tweet from a Twitter account often associated with the Drudge Report (not to be confused with Matt Drudge's verified account).
White House anticipating news bombshell?

While this could be the very definition of an evergreen tweet, it still set the table for what would prove to be an explosive week.
On Wednesday, as Trump was reaching alarming new lows (which is saying something!) by retweeting false anti-Muslim propaganda, news came out that Trump son-in-law and close advisor Jared Kushner had spoken with Mueller. Kushner had already been a source of paranoia for the president before this meeting took place, too.
He followed that up by tweeting thinly-veiled conspiracy theories prompted by Matt Lauer's firing at NBC over allegations of sexual assault.
So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!

Oh, and there's the story that Trump apparently is starting to express belief that the infamous Access Hollywood tape he already apologized for is, in fact, fake and that he's still peddling the Obama birther conspiracy.
For all of Trump's insults hurled at the New York Times, there's no denying that the paper's White House reporter Maggie Haberman has a special rapport with the president, having interviewed him several times and being seen as one of Trump's favored contacts.
And, now, even Haberman is alarmed by Trump's behavior, telling CNN, "Something is unleashed with him lately."
Well, finding out that Michael Flynn has flipped on you and might be willing to testify in the probe that will bring you down is certainly something that might cause a person to just vomit weird stuff all over Twitter.
He's even lashed out at UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who has been — to this point — one of his few global allies, after she took him to task about those anti-Muslim retweets.
.@Theresa_May, don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!

Now, again, there's no way to know if the Flynn news (or even Kushner) is the reason for The Baddest Bad Trump Twitter Week. We don't know what Trump knew and when he knew it.
Maybe he just wanted to keep our eyes off the ball as the Senate tried to ram through his tax reform bill.
Or, maybe – and stick with me here – he just believes these bad things and likes sharing bad things on Twitter.
I know, shocker.
Whatever the case, though, it all makes for an intriguing poop pie and leaves Trump, no matter how much he lashes out, still in plenty of hot water.
