Here's what we know about robots: Robots have taken jobs. Robots are taking jobs. Robots will take jobs.
The question remains, though: How many jobs? Hard to say.
Analysts, futurists, and academics vary in their assessment of just how many jobs (and perhaps more importantly which jobs) are at risk, but they generally all agree: things are going to change.
So, with automation and artificial intelligence threatening to eliminate millions of jobs in the coming decades, should you be worried about the impending robot job revolution? There's a website that will try to answer that question.
Aptly titled "Will Robots Take My Job?" the site provides an easy way to get a sense of what jobs are most at risk.
Using a 2013 report from the University of Oxford, the website provides an estimate of how much any particular job is at risk of disappearing due to "computerisation."
"We extracted the jobs and the probability of automation from the report and have made it easy to search for your job. We’ve added some additional information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to provide some additional information about the jobs," the website's authors note on the site.
Just type in a job and the website provides a particular series of employment types. Click on one and get ready for bad news.
The website is the brainchild of Mubashar Iqbal and Dimitar Raykov, who launched the website on Tuesday.
Posting on Product Hunt, Iqbal said the website went from concept to reality in just a few weeks.
Ironically, the website itself is, in some ways, a robot...
